Sunset on Little Traverse Bay at Petoskey

We took a couple days for a mini vacation.  We went to Petoskey.  Stayed at a motel with a good deal of half off.  They also have meals all day long & free hair cuts.  The name of it is @ Michigan Inn & Lodge.  While there we went to the beach & got these pretty pictures.  It was not the prettiest sunset we have seen but pretty all the same.

Progress on Podunk Bridge

We had been gone for a couple days.  When we came home the road close signs at M57 & Stultz were gone.  We didn't think they could have completed the work.  This is what we found.  They have not put the pavement on it but the road is open sort of to drive on the dirt.  It will be good to be able to go that way to church now.

Podunk Bridge

We stopped today to see how they were doing on repairing the bridge.  This is what it like now.   We were on the south side looking north.  It appears that mostly what needs to be done now is to replace the road.

This picture shows the cement culvert instead of the metal that they had before.  In is picture it has black stripes of something on it.

Second Round

Off with the dressing/cast that was put on during surgery.

More incisions & stitches than last time.

Xray of before, see the longer bone in the thumb, the smaller bone under that is what was removed.

It is a bit hard to see but the xray on the right shows the
space where the bone is missing.  It is not really an empty
space as the tendon that was taken out of his arm is circle
up in that space but does not show up on xray.

Back home with the new purple cast.  I told him he is matching his shirt.

A Sewing Major Project

I was asked by a neighbor girl if I could fix her doll.  I said yes before I realized what I was getting myself into.  These first three pictures show what the doll looked like when I got her.

I had the doll for a few weeks before I started on fixing her.  I had to think about how to go about it.

The legs were really bad, so they had put duct tape on them.  I was afraid of what them might look like under the tape.

The picture to the right shows what the legs did loo
like under the tape.  I had to hand repair the big holes
 in the legs & feet.

I got a pair of men's socks that was about the same color.  I made leg & arm covers to put over the old arms & legs.  I didn't want to spoil the old doll by removing the old parts so I just cover the bad parts.  I cut the heal of the sock for the face & embroidered a new face on.

I figured she needed a new clothes too so made blue under pants & a red dress.  My daughter suggested since she had had red tape boots I should give her some red boots too.  So she has boots too.
She has gone back home to her "mamma" who was very happy for the improvement.  In her words the doll was claimed to be awesome.

Newest Sewing Project.

Our curtians by our bay window were getting very very worn out.  We close them at bed time & when we go away to keep our dogs out of the bay window as we have plants in there.  But there have been several times that they have gotten in there any way.  Then as they come back out they have bent the rod & ripped the curtains.  We have replace the rod several times & I have put patches on the curtains.  You can see some of the patches at the bottom of this first picture.  But now they have started falling apart where we pull them back & forth.  I don't know if you can see the bent rod in the second picture or not.

Here are the new curtains.  I had both fabrics in my stash. So the biggest cost was the hooks.  I got them on ebay they were a darker red then I hoped for.  I had a grand daughter ask if she could paint them for me.  We had a painting day last Sat.  I had 4 helpers.  We went with red, white & blue.  The stars do keep the curtains from opening as much as I'd like but that is ok too.  In this first picture of the curtains you can't see the bottom part of blue.  The blue have dots on it & the red has white stars, the tie back is a blue/white plaid.

I have had this wall hanging for years given to me by my best friend.  I have used it as a inspiration for many of the other items in the living room so I figured I'd make the curtains to sort of match too.

Sore Arm

Ed had a lot more swelling with this surgery.  He even had bruising too.  He had to take off his wedding ring because it was getting too tight to leave it on the left ring finger.
